The Government proposed to launch amega pension Yojana namely ‘PradhanMantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan’ for theunorganised sector workers with monthlyincome up to Rs 15,000. As per Finance ministry half ofIndia’s GDP comes from the sweatand toil of 42 crore workers in theunorganised sector working asstreet vendors, rickshaw pullers,construction workers, rag pickers,agricultural workers, beedi workers,handloom, leather and in numerousother similar occupations.
This pension yojana shall providethem an assured monthly pension ofRs. 3,000 from the age of 60 yearson a monthly contribution of a smallaffordable amount during theirworking age. Anunorganised sectorworker joining pension yojana at theage of 29 years will have tocontribute only Rs 100 per month tillthe age of 60 years. A worker joiningthe pension yojana at 18 years willhave to contribute as little as Rs 55per month only.
The Government will deposit equalmatching share in the pensionaccount of the worker every month.It is expected that at least 10 crorelabourers and workers in theunorganised sector will avail thebenefit of ‘Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan’ within next fiveyears making it one of the largestpension schemes of the world.
A sum of Rs. 500 crore has beenallocated for the Scheme. Additionalfunds will be provided as needed.The scheme will also beimplemented from the current year.
