New ant species discovered from Kerala

 

Two new rare ant genus have been discovered in India. The Ooceraea ant genus found in Kerala, and Tamil Nadu has increased the diversity of this rare genus.

 

According to the number of antennal segments, they are different from others of the same genus.

One of them was discovered in the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala and named Ooceraea joshii after an outstanding evolutionary biologist from the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR).

Ant genus Ooceraea: There are currently 14 species in this genus, of which 8 have 9 segmented antennae, 5 have 11 segmented antennae, and recently one has 8 segmented antennae. In India, so far, the genus is composed of two species representing nine and eleven segmented antennae.

International Day of Education is an annual international observance day held on January 24 and is dedicated to education.

On December 3, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming January 24 as International Day of Education.

This year the closure of schools, universities, and other learning institutions, as well as the interruption of many literacy and lifelong learning programmes, has affected the lives of 1.6 billion students in over 190 countries.

Nation Girl Child Day: 24 January

The National Girl Child Day is observed every year on 24 january.

The day is observed for focusing attention on ensuring equal opportunities to the girl child.

Founded by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, in 2008, the annual celebration of National Girl Child Day is meant to provide support and opportunities to the girls of our nation.

The day is celebrated by organizing various programs including awareness campaigns on Save the girl child, child sex ratios, and creating a healthy and safe environment for a girl child.

Parakram diwas: 23 January

 

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 125th birth anniversary on 23 January 2021 is observed as Parakram Diwas.

The day is celebrated to honour and remember Netaji’s indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation.

With the slogan “Give me blood and I will give you freedom”, he awakened the country towards fighting against the British.

Netaji built a force known as the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) giving the slogan of “Dilli Chalo”.

National Voters’ Day: 25 January

 

The National Voters’ Day (NVD) is observed every year on 25 January every year.

The Election Commission was founded in 1950 on this day.

The occasion was first celebrated in 2011.

This year’s theme is “Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed”.

One focus this year is highlighting the EC’s feat of running elections safely during the pandemic.

The National Voters Day ceremony is aimed at increasing voter enrolment, with special focus on new voters.

National Tourism Day of India: January 25

 

Every year, January 25 is celebrated as National Tourism Day in India.

The day was established by the Government of India to promote tourism and raise awareness of the importance of tourism for the country’s economy.

India is a country where ethnicity, practice, culture, etc changes with every kilometre as one moves from North to South.

It has mountains and the sea, which makes the country a distinct geographical entity.

This year, the theme of National Tourism Day is ‘Dekho Apna Desh’.

 

 

Union Minister Arjun Munda Virtually Launches “Shramshakti” Portal for Migrant Workers

 

The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri Arjun Munda launched a National Migration Support Portal “ShramShakti”.

The portal will help the government in smooth formulation of state and national level programs for migrant workers.

Shram Shakti portal will address the data gap and empower migrant workers who generally migrate in search of employment and income generation.

Government would also be able to link the migrant population with the existing Welfare Scheme- under Atam Nirbhar Bharat.

The minister also launched “ShramSaathi”, a training manual for migrant workers, to ensure that the process of livelihood migration is safe and productive.

India’s largest multi-model logistic park to come up at Virochan Nagar in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat

 

India’s largest multi-model logistic park will come up at Virochan Nagar near Sanand in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat.

A Memorandum of Understanding-MoU was signed between the Gujarat Government and Adani Port and SEZ Ltd.

The proposed 1,450-acre park will also have a dedicated air cargo complex with 4.6-kilometre long runway to handle even large sized cargo aircraft.

It will provide direct air, rail and road connectivity. The park will have provision of direct rail connectivity with a dedicated freight corridor which is part of the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor.

The multi-model logistic park will be set up with an estimated investment of Rs 50,000 crore.
