Insurance Scheme (Savalambam) for Disabled People in Kerala:

  • This is the insurance scheme named Savalambam for the disabled person in Kerala.
  • The main purpose of the scheme is to take care of disabled person and include them into the mainstream society.
  • As centre as well as state government has taken many initiative to make the working environment friendly for disabled person.
  • This is the another step taken by the state government to help the disabled person in achieving the social and financial security.
  • This scheme has not been launched yet although it has been announced.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
  • Disabled person must have completed 65 year age.
  • The person must have disability over 40%.

Karunya Health Scheme:

  • Karunya health scheme provides a special health cover of Rs 2 Lakhs to the residents of Kerala at very low premium.
  • Under this scheme patient will get cashless treatment from the hundreds of government and private hospitals.
  • The lists of these hospitals are mentioned on the website of Karunya health scheme.
  • The funds for the scheme were already delivered by the state government.

Startup Village Entrepreneurship Program (SVEP):

  • Kerala government approved new start-up village entrepreneurship program for all the districts of Kerala.
  • The purpose of the new start-up village entrepreneurship program is to increase the no of entrepreneur and job opportunities in the state.
  • SVEP program will support over 2000 start-ups in the state.
  • Through SVEP program state government aims to prompting the start-up culture at the smaller cities, towns and villages, that will create more job opportunities.
  • Under this scheme a young entrepreneur who wants to setup his business will get financial assistance from the state government.

Old Age Homes and Day Care Centres Schemes:

  • State government has decided to support local self-governments for starting Old age homes and day care centre.
  • In this scheme state government will provide Rs 2 Lakhs to each institution to meet administrative expenses.
  • The running of Institution was entrusted to Kudumbasree and LSG provide infrastructure and maintenance.
  • The role of LSG is to provide-
  • Land and Building
  • Infrastructure
  • Day-to-Day Maintenance &
  • Identify and engage Local Kudumbasree members for the functioning of the home.

Flagship Programme for Gender Awareness:

  • This scheme is governed by Central and state government.
  • There is one time central assistance from the government.
  • To give general awareness on the rising menace of domestic violence, sexual harassment, dowry demands and to initiate a sustained campaign for creating awareness that would enable young girls and women to use the various provisions of law to defend themselves and seek remedial measures is the need of the hour in the state. Accordingly, this programme aims to overcome gender discrimination through several measures.
  • Assistance can be obtained from Social Justice Department through protection officers and through service providers accredited by the department.

State Award to Best Employees, Employers and Institutions for Differently Abled:

  • There are total 18 awards for physically handicapped employees. There are 2 awards each for blind, deaf, locomotor disabled employees for government sector, private sector and public sector.  One awards each for best placement employers in government, private and public sector.  One award is given each for welfare institutions for handicapped in the different categories of blind, deaf, locomotor and mentally retarded.
  • The beneficiaries of this scheme will be permanent handicapped employees working in public, private and government sectors, Best placement agencies (govt., private & public) and handicapped welfare institutions.
  • Eligibity Criteria: Central/State/Public/Private Sector employees who are handicapped can apply. A Central/State/Public Sector institution which has 2% of total employees handicapped can apply.  Welfare institutions for handicapped for blind, deaf and dump, locomotor disability and mental retardation can apply.

Application of handicapped employees must be recommended by the head of the office.  Medical certificate, photo to prove disability should be along with the application.  Employees and institution who got award once are not encouraged.
